If your mugshot is live on Mugshots.zone, you’re not the only one. This website republishes booking data and arrest records from jails across the United States, often with little context and no effort to confirm accuracy. Even if your case was dismissed, sealed, or never prosecuted, the listing can still follow you around online.
The good news? Mugshots.zone has an actual removal form and in some cases, they will delete your record. But you’ll need rock-solid documentation, and the process isn’t instant.
This guide breaks down what Mugshots.zone is, how their takedown process works, and what to do if they ignore your request.

What Is Mugshots.zone
Mugshots.zone is a mugshot search engine that pulls booking and arrest records from public databases, county jails, sheriff’s departments, and court sites. Think of it as another cog in the mugshot scraping machine: one that doesn’t always prioritize fairness or due process.
Mugshots Zone is one of the more recent additions to the online mugshot community that largely has been in decline since 2018. It popped up in 2022 and is now one of the few mugshot sites that’s actually still getting traffic these days.
They are the one of the most common mugshot sites that we get content removal requests to help with. It actually has 2x more traffic than mugshots.com, the historically largest and most recognizable site in the space.
They claim they’re offering a “public service” by allowing citizens to search for recent arrests. But in reality, many of the people listed:
- Were never convicted
- Have had their charges dropped
- Are victims of identity theft
- Or had their records expunged years ago
Regardless, their names and images are still online. Mugshots.zone now ranks among a growing group of data aggregator sites profiting from outdated or misleading arrest information.
Will Mugshots.zone Remove Your Mugshot?
Yes, but only in very specific cases.
According to Mugshots.zone’s removal policy, they’ll consider removing your listing if your case meets one of the following:
- The charges were expunged
- The records were sealed by the court
- The charges were dismissed, nol prossed, or resulted in a not guilty verdict
- You provide a letter from your lawyer confirming one of the above
No conviction? Decade-old arrest? Still there, unless you ask them to take it down properly.
How to Remove a Mugshot from Mugshots.zone
1. Find the Mugshot Page URL
Search your name or browse by state at https://mugshots.zone. Once you find your mugshot, copy the full URL of the page.
Example:
https://mugshots.zone/florida/john-smith-123456789/
Keep that link. You’ll need it when submitting the removal request.
2. Prepare Your Legal Documents
To qualify for removal, you must submit one of the following:
- Court order showing expunged, sealed, or dismissed charges
- Case disposition paperwork proving you were found not guilty
- A letter from your attorney confirming your case outcome
3. Fill out the Official Removal Form
Go to: https://mugshots.zone/remove-a-listing/
Complete the form by entering:
- Your full name
- Email address
- A working phone number (they may call to verify)
- The mugshot profile URL you saved
- A brief explanation (e.g., “Case was dismissed” or “Record expunged in 2023”)
- Upload your supporting documents
Once you’ve double-checked everything, hit submit. Take a screenshot for confirmation.
4. Wait for Processing
Mugshots.zone says it may take up to 10 days to verify your documents and process the takedown. They don’t always send confirmation, so check the original page every few days to see if the content has been removed.
If you haven’t heard back in 2 weeks, try resubmitting or follow up via their contact form. If you’re working with an attorney, consider having them reach out on your behalf.
What If the Mugshot Is Still on Google?
Even after your listing is deleted from Mugshots.zone, it may still appear in Google, Bing, or Yahoo due to cached content. You’ll need to clean that up separately.
Use the Google Outdated Content Tool:
- Go to: https://search.google.com/search-console/remove-outdated-content
- Paste in the Mugshots.zone URL
- Choose “Content has been removed”
- Follow the prompts
Google reviews the request and will usually refresh their search cache in a few days if the content is gone.
Do the Same for Bing:
Log in with a Microsoft or Google account at https://www.bing.com/webmasters/tools/contentremoval
Then:
- Paste the mugshots.zone URL
- Select “Remove outdated cache”
- Enter what changed on the page
- Submit
These won’t delete the mugshot but can hide outdated versions from search results, including other engines that piggy back off of Google and Bing, including AI like ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity.
If Mugshots.zone Denies or Ignores Your Request
If you submitted valid legal documentation and Mugshots.zone still refuses to remove the page, try the following:
1. Check Your State’s Mugshot Laws
Some states require websites to remove arrest records under state privacy or consumer protection laws. If you’re in one of these states, you may have additional leverage:
| State | Removal Rights |
|---|---|
| California | Illegal to charge fees. Removal required if charges were dropped. |
| Florida | Must remove photos upon request, regardless of outcome. |
| Texas | Bans pay-for-removal. Requires removal on request in many cases. |
| Illinois, Oregon, Colorado, Georgia, New York (partial) | Offer varying protections. Some allow legal damages. |
| North Carolina, Utah, Wyoming | Restrict mugshot publishing or allow removal for free. |
Look up your specific state laws or ask a local attorney to assist.

2. File a Complaint
If the site refuses to cooperate and you believe it’s breaking the law:
- File a complaint with your state attorney general’s office
- Report predatory removal behavior (e.g. charging for takedowns) to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC)
- Your local district attorney’s consumer protection unit
Submit a report to ICANN if the domain operator misrepresents or harasses users
3. Submitting a complaint to Google
Even if mugshots.zone won’t remove your photo, Google might.
If the site is charging for removal or qualifies as a predatory site under Google’s policy, you can request deindexing of the page using this tool:
Report Content to Google – Exploitative Removal Form
You’ll need to:
-
Confirm the page is about you
-
Show proof that removal is contingent on payment or unethical behavior
-
Provide the specific URL of the mugshot page
If they approve the request, Google will remove the link from search results, although the photo and arrest information will still exist on the site itself.
4. Suppress the Mugshot with Positive Content
If you can’t get your mugshot removed you can also suppress unwanted links by posting positive, accurate content that ranks higher.
Here’s what helps:
- Build a personal website with your full name as the domain
- Create or update profiles on LinkedIn, YouTube, Crunchbase, Medium
- Publish new posts, bios, and press features
- Use SEO keywords with your name in headlines and titles
Consistent, up-to-date content will naturally push unwanted results from sites like mugshots.zone off Google’s front page over time.
