What Is a Copyright Removal Request?
A copyright removal request is a formal DMCA takedown notice that informs Google of unauthorized use of copyrighted material. If approved, Google will remove the infringing content from search results or its platform where the content appears.
When Can You Submit a Copyright Removal Request?
You can submit a request if:
- You are the copyright owner or a legally authorized representative.
- The content is published online without your permission.
- The use of the content does not qualify as fair use under copyright law.
Important: Misuse of the copyright removal process (such as filing false claims) may result in legal consequences and suspension of your account.

It is our policy to respond to legally valid copyright removal requests. Our response may include restricting access to or demonetizing the content in question. For Google Services that have account holders or subscribers, we will, in appropriate circumstances, disable the accounts of repeat infringers. If we restrict access to or demonetize content in response to such a request, we will attempt to notify the owner or administrator of the affected site or content. The owner or administrator of the site or content has the right to appeal the action taken (this is known as a counter notice in many jurisdictions). If a counter notice is submitted, we will attempt to inform you.
